JSPS Kaken Grants Symposium-Questions, Strategies, and Experiences
Kyoto chapter is looking for 4-5 symposium discussants who have experience applying, successfully or unsuccessfully, for JSPS Kaken Grants (kakenhi) and can speak on one or more of the following topics:
- What are the different kinds of kaken grants?
- How do I get an application, fill it out, and submit it?
- What research topics are more or less likely to be funded?
- What are strategies for effectively organizing a kaken proposal?
- What is my university’s role in kaken grant applications and administration?
- Applying solo or with co-researchers: Is one better than the other?
- How do I set a budget for my proposal?
- What are the typical stages and requirements over a grant period?

Participants wanted for research into how university English language learners around the world use English in their daily lives
How important do your students believe English is in their lives and for their futures, and in what ways? If you would like to help researchers answer this question for English language learners around the world, then please find out more and download a flier to share this survey with your students.
Learner Development SIG Call for presentations (on demand and face-to-face) for CCLT8 due 30th November 2024
Creating Community: Learning Together 8 (CCLT8) is an informal, supportive conference, taking place on Sunday, December 22, from 12:00-17:00 at Otsuma Women’s University, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo (with an on-demand conference space).
Students and teachers are invited to share their experiences, ideas, perspectives, and puzzles, related to the theme “Stories of Collaborative, Sustainable, and Transformative Learner Development.”
Face to Face: 3 rounds of concurrent Poster Presentations (40 min with 10 minute Reflection)
On-demand: Your presentation materials e.g. (video, poster, audio recording, slideshow) will be hosted online in the shared conference space. Visitors to the online conference space will be encouraged to watch your videos and leave comments up to a month after the conference.
Deadline for proposal submissions is November 30th.
Call for Submissions: The School House journal (TYL SIG)
The School House journal is looking for more submissions! The School House is published three times a year (winter, spring, and summer/autumn) by JALT’s Teaching Younger Learners SIG.
Deadlines: Submissions for The School House are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Types of articles:
- Feature research-based articles (3,000-5,000 words)
- Short articles (maximum 1,500 words)
- Interviews (1,000-3,000 words)
- Classroom ideas (maximum 1,000 words)
- Book reviews (700-2,000 words)
- Conference/ presentation reviews (700-2,000 words)
- Textbook Reviews (700-2,000 words based on a textbook you actually used in class.
- Language program reviews (600-1,500 words)

JALT PanSIG Call for Presentations will open November 1st
PanSIG 2025 will be held May 16-18, 2025 at Kanda University of International Studies in Mihama Ward, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. The conference chair is Robert Dykes; the site co-chairs are Jennie Roloff Rothman and Prateek Sharma. The call for presentation proposals will open on November 1st, 2024, and the deadline will be January 14, 2025, at 11:59 pm. Responses regarding your submissions will be sent via email from mid-February 2025.
