In our March event, Kyoto JALT will focus on an essential yet sometimes overlooked part of being a successful academic – how to apply for grants. The morning session features a talk by current JALT Grants Committee Chair, Tanja McCandie and former Grants Committee Chair, Greg Sholdt about writing a proposal for the JALT National Research Grant, awarded every year to up to three members. In the afternoon symposium, we will hear from speakers who have applied, both successfully and unsuccessfully, for JSPS Kaken Grants (aka. kakenhi), which are competitive funds for basic and applied research available to researchers across academic disciplines, including language education. Questions about any aspect of grant proposal writing are welcome from attendees throughout the day. Come join us for what promises to be an instructive professional development-focused chapter meeting!
